Abu Dhabi’s entrepreneurial ecosystem is experiencing a rapid surge in youth-led businesses, with a remarkable 97.8% increase in registrations between 2023 and 2024. The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry reports that over 21,240 members between the ages of 18 and 35 are now affiliated with the organization, collectively holding a registered capital of more than Dh14.9 billion. This growth highlights Abu Dhabi’s appeal as a top destination for startups and innovative ventures.

Driving Forces Behind the Growth

The article attributes this expansion to several key factors. The Abu Dhabi Youth Business Council, led by Mansoor Al Sayegh, provides vital support to young entrepreneurs through a strategy focused on skill-building, legislative shaping, and creating new business opportunities. This is complemented by broader government initiatives like Hub71, a global tech ecosystem that has attracted over 315 startups, raising more than Dh5.4 billion in funding since 2019. The emirate’s pro-business reforms, including more flexible visa policies and reduced setup costs, also play a crucial role in attracting diverse talent.

Diverse and Cosmopolitan Ecosystem

The rise of youth-led businesses in Abu Dhabi is a cosmopolitan phenomenon, with membership almost evenly split between Emiratis (49%) and expatriates (51%). The ventures are diverse, with trade activities leading the way, followed by construction, administrative services, and hospitality. This growth aligns with the UAE’s broader vision to diversify its economy beyond oil and empower its youth to become major contributors to the non-oil sector.
